Ter Stegen Sidelined for 3 Months After Back Surgery
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen will be out of action for three months following back surgery to address a persistent issue that’s plagued him in recent seasons. The 33-year-old Germany international confirmed the news via Instagram, expressing his emotional disappointment at missing valuable game time.
“Physically and athletically, I feel great, but the pain hasn’t gone away… After consulting with Barça’s medical team and outside specialists, surgery is the quickest and safest way to fully recover.”
This will be his second procedure on the same issue—his previous recovery took around 66 days. However, doctors are now recommending a longer recovery period to avoid future complications.
🎯 With Ter Stegen sidelined, Joan Garcia, recently signed from Espanyol, is poised to take over as first-choice keeper, backed up by veteran Wojciech Szczesny.
🛑 Reports also suggest Barcelona may consider selling Ter Stegen, potentially clearing the path for the registration of big-name summer arrivals like Marcus Rashford. La Liga’s unique squad registration rules have allowed Barça to maneuver similarly in the past, notably with Dani Olmo’s temporary registration last season.
“Emotionally, it hurts a lot not being able to support the team during this time,” Ter Stegen wrote, adding he feels hopeful and confident about his recovery.
Barcelona’s goalkeeping shakeup is sure to influence their tactical setup as the season unfolds. Stay tuned with Epic Goal Wave for all the latest updates on the Blaugrana!
